Vision & mission statement
The City of Cambridge Brass Band was formed in 1900 and has, throughout much of its history, been recognised as the city band for Cambridge. The band maintains a vision to be a cultural beacon for the community that enriches contemporary Cambridgeshire life from village green to concert hall and supports the historic legacy of its vibrant university city.
To achieve this, we have embarked on a 4-fold mission to strengthen and differentiate the bands vision:
To achieve this, we have embarked on a 4-fold mission to strengthen and differentiate the bands vision:
- To be a focus for bringing the community together in all its rich diversity, maintaining the traditional role of community brass bands in the modern era by supporting cultural and civic events throughout Cambridgeshire but especially those taking place in the city itself in order to maintain and strengthen our position as the ‘city band’ for Cambridge
- To be a ‘force for good’ and become known as a passionate supporter of local charities by offering our services at as low a cost as possible (even free where possible) for charitable fundraising concerts and events taking place in the Cambridgeshire area and especially for those charities with substantial benefit to the lives of local residents.
- To support the development of young brass players by giving them opportunities for regular ensemble playing and public performance to a high standard.
- To maintain and develop the bands high quality of playing and musicianship through a combination of quality recruitment, contesting and visionary musical direction. The band has ambitions to regain its Championship status and to develop its reputation as an exciting and contemporary band while also staying relevant and accessible to a wide audience. We aim to continue commissioning new music and to challenge traditional perceptions of brass band music, reflecting the prestigious academic heritage of its namesake university city.
